John Maio

John Maio

Owner/Founder/Trainer

In April of 2005, John founded New York Sport and Fitness. In the years since, NYSF has grown steadily in reputation and is now recognized as the region’s premier fitness center. NYSF started off as a 12,000 square foot space with no training programs or cohesive philosophy. Through John’s vision, NYSF has evolved into a 36,000 square foot fitness and training center that offers multiple levels of training designed to meet every member’s needs. John’s programs are informed by his belief in functional performance fitness, an approach that has enabled John and his trainers to advance the skills and abilities of both athletes and non-athletes with resounding success and to guide hundreds of weight-loss clients to habits of lifetime health and fitness. John’s training expertise is valued by the area’s sports teams as well—currently, he is working with Elmira College’s athletic teams on strength and conditioning.

Strongly committed to the community in which he grew up, John is an assistant varsity football coach at Notre Dame High School, a founding member of the Joel Stephens Foundation—which raises and donates thousands of dollars annually to charity—and an active supporter of local fundraising efforts. He and his wife Heather have three children—Evalynn, Roman, and Rocco.
